279 West Nine Mile (corner of Allen) has been a popular spot in Ferndale since the 40s and looks to have an equally amazing future! Below is a history of this location - with more to come.....

Before 1940	No records found. Essmann-Caldwell Printing Co was at 270 West Nine Mile. It appears that structure was demolished when 279 was built.
1940 Jan	A&P Opens. Believe this was newly constructed at 279 West Nine Mile
1947	A&P Still at this location
1949 Oct	Kroger opens here. A&P Moved to 481 West Nine - about where Western Market (447) is today. NOTE: A&P had 4 locations around Ferndale from 1930-1960.
1953 Sept	Kroger still at this location
1959 Feb	Giant Value Store opens at this location
1961 Dec	Crown Shoes was located here (not sure of opening or closing date)
1967 April	Flair Fine Furniture is at this location (not sure of opening or closing date)
1973 Aug	Flair Fine Furniture still at this location
1977 June	Best Furniture at this location going out of business
1978 March	Comfort Furniture at this location going out of business
1980 May	Autoworks Auto Parts (owned by Perry Drugs) opens at this location
1985 Oct	Autoworks still here
1986 Jan	Sam's Jams opens at this location
1994 May	Sam's Jam's closes at this location
1995 Oct	Miller's Art Supplies opens at this location
2002 Nov?	Miller's Art Supplies closes this location
2004 May	Eyeglass Factory at this location
2006	Eyeglass Factory still here, mural added
2009 July	Rosie O'Grady's moved to this location from Troy Street
2021 July	Rosie O'Grady's announces closing and plans to build 2 new restaurants with 2nd story condos at this location
