The Woodward Dream Cruise originated in Ferndale as a fund raising idea for a "Kids Dream Field" at Martin Road Park. On January 26, 1993 Nelson House coordinated a "kickoff" meeting to discuss plans and fund-raising ideas for the soccer field with several civic minded people of Ferndale. After many discussions, one idea was to host a car show & cruise - and the Dream Cruise was born! The first event was held August 19, 1995. The cruise has been held every year since, except 2020 when it was officially cancelled due to the pandemic. But many cruisers enjoyed the event anyway!

A primary theme of the cruise is to relive the 1950s cruising scene. To help visualize that, here is a map of popular hangouts in the 1950s!
